pedned's Railway Photos - Updated: 20th October 2012
I've had a pretty good weekend so far.
Friday was spent at the Mid Norfolk Railway's diesel gala. Mainly for my dose of 31235, which sounded in great form. Some excellent thrash from here.
Saturday was spent at Llangollen's diesel day, again for a class 31 mainly, as D5580 (31162) was used on 3 trains plus the ex 19:00 beer-ex... Again some top thrash, especially up the 1 in 80 gradient between Llangollen goods loop and Berwyn, and the 1 in 135 through the single bore Berwyn tunnel!!!!!
Oh and I got my hands on 6 real ales, from the beer-ex to try!
Well here's why you came here, photos!

Oh, before I forget, also in the March folder are photos from the East Lancs railways diesel gala earlier in the month!

Photos of 31466 working the diesel diagram on Thurs 5th April, at the Dean Forest Railway, and a few kettle photos, from the Severn Valley Railway, after visiting the line with Mr Alan Wheeler. Oh and 50049 back at Kiddy, with her three-piece mini-snow ploughs!

They're fantastic, Jay! I particularly like the one of the GWR Large Prairie.
(In fact I like anything containing proper traction...)

Re: pedned's Railway Photos - Updated: 20th October 2012
Number 5164, second from last.
Prairie = any proper locomotive with a 2-6-2 wheel arrangement.

Good stuff!
Jamie is actually being very modest about his photography. He is keeping very quiet about his success behind the scenes. He won't plug his own work, so I will - the latest of his pictures to be published appears on page 10 of the most recent "Traction" magazine...

It's not worth buying as the picture is tiny, and not the greatest in the world either... It's just a bog-standard night-time station shot.

Re: pedned's Railway Photos - Updated: 20th October 2012
I forgot to post this yesterday, despite uploading it to Facebook...
I was playing around with some HDR software, and managed to create a very surreal, all most oil painting effect, picture of Castle Heddingham station on the Colne Valley Railway... Some of you may recognise it from the latest Daniel Radcliffe film, as it was one of the 2 railways used to film the scene on the train.
The image was created from 3 photographs, with different exposures (+1, 0 and -1 exposure steps).
And yes I know about the "ghosting" chimney pot on the roof, I just didn't fix it because it wasn't supposed to be a perfect picture, and it was just experimenting with some settings, more than anything.

Sorry to keep posting photo links... BUT I was at Rushden today, where 31206 was working brake van rides, and there was a small gathering of classic road vehicles, including a stream roller, some mini-steam things, some classic cars, motorbikes and a vintage fire engine.
Obviously I havent uploaded photos of each and every things. But heres what I have uploaded (mainly 31206 to be honest).
But please feel free to have a look!

I was at the Nene Valley Railway yesterday, for their spring diesel gala, where they had visiting locos 31601, 31602, 56312 ( all courtesy of BARS), 47812 (Courtesy of Riviera Trains) and 66746 (Courtesy of GBRf), working alongside resident diesels D9529 and 31108.
The gala originally wasn't supposed to be featuring 3 class 31s, as a class 37 and another class 56 had been agreed to visit, but these were deemed unavailable, due to failures a few weeks prior to the gala. Therefore 31601 was sent out as a replacement.
Anyway, here are some photos!

Some nice shots there Jamie! Can you please send me the original of the front head-on photo of the NSE one? I think I can use that.
Good to see you back in action too.

Forgot to post a link from the Battlefield Line Railways 'Rail Ale' event, a couple of weeks ago... This included 31101's first workings since it was taken out of traffic for bodywork repairs and some preperation work for the Boiler they plan to fit to it!
Since then I've also been to the Epping and Ongar Railway, which was an especailly enjoyable day.
Thanks to Katie Louise on the wnxx forum for the gen, and information on where to park etc!
And thanks to everyone else for being extremely welcoming, the unexpected cab ride, and especially to Marco for the lift back to the car, so we could get the Coopersale section of line in the bag, at the end of the day!!
I really enjoyed the day, and the thrash from 31438 was superb as well!
A great little railway, with some quite steep inclines. (Literally the whole line is up hill which includes a 1 in 70 and a 1 in 55 gradient) and very friendly staff/volunteers too!
Will be back again for 438 at some point!
