Night Shots in London Empty Night Shots in London

I thought I'd try some of Jamie's techniques yesterday evening with a few night shots from Waterloo Bridge in London. It was a crisp and slightly damp evening, the camera was set at aperture f2.8 with auto exposure time...

First up, the Adelphi, Shell Mex House and the Savoy beyond Victoria Embankment:

Next, the Queen Elizabeth Hall and Purcell Room near Festival Pier:

A view down Belvedere Road, showing the London Eye framing Big Ben in the background: (I wanted to rotate this a few degrees, the camera was on a fixed pillar set at an angle!)

I almost forgot, a further shot to the east towards Blackfriars Bridge, showing St. Pauls Cathedral illuminating the night sky:

OK I guess, But I would have shot in manual for one...
Using a large f stop, around f18?
Would have got the "star shaped flare" on the lights etc then. But I guess thats down to preference.
They look a little under-exposed still to me though.

Thank you Jamie, I shall experiment with the larger f stop, under which circumstances I expect a manual shoot would be rather more controllable, exposure wise. I'm determined to extract all your secrets... Cool Wink
